JCBC Winter Party Jan 21! Homebrew! Food! Games!

Please RSVP today, so we get an idea of how much beer/wine/food everyone plans to bring.

Our party will be held January 21st starting at 6PM at Merseles Studios (339 Newark Ave, Jersey City). The invitation is open to the public, so please bring friends and family, or tell your neighbors that may be interested in homebrew. The club will be serving its bourbon barrel-aged stout and barrel-aged saison, as well as any drinks members bring.

For food we are doing a potluck, so if you don’t have any drinks, you can bring along something tasty.

We also plan on having some games and other activities. Hope to see you there!

RSVP: https://jcbcwinter.eventbrite.com

And don’t forget, we will be having our January meeting at HopsScotch Bar & Grill on January 18th at 7:30PM.

Saturday, June 25 Homebrew Walking Tour Tickets Available Now!

GET YOUR TICKETS NOW: http://jcbcwalk.bpt.me

There are only 40 tickets available, so grab yours ASAP!

Please join the Jersey City Brew Club as we host our annual walking tour of the homebrewers in Hoboken and Jersey City!

On this tour, we’ll enter the apartments of four of North Jersey’s finest homebrewers to display their setups, discuss their craft, and most importantly, open their stash of delicious homemade beer.

DO: Bring your thirst.
DON’T:  Forget to eat a big lunch beforehand.

The tour will begin at 1pm on Saturday, June 25th at The Thirsty Quaker in Downtown Jersey City.  It will conclude around 7pm, near the 2nd St Light Rail in Hoboken.  To ensure the privacy of our brewers, the exact itinerary will be delivered via email to those who RSVP.  Please email jerseycitybrewclub@gmail.com with any questions.

Because the law prevents us from charging for homebrew, we only ask that you pay the minimum $5 to cover the cost of your light rail tickets. However, this walking tour is a fundraiser for the club, so we suggest you choose the $30 option. You may enter any price you feel is appropriate though.

Going to National Homebrew Conference? – Also, meetings back at HopsScotch now

If you’re going to the National Homebrew Conference in Baltimore (June 9-11), please email jerseycitybrewclub AT gmail.com so we can coordinate. Our club will have a table at club night so we’ll be planning keg transportation, decorations, beers, and other cool stuff. If you haven’t signed up yet, there’s still space available, and it’s a really great time!

In other news, our club meetings are back at HopsScotch for the time being. We’d like to thank Departed Soles Brewery for their hospitality, but as business picks up for them we want to get out of their hair. Meet up with us in the back room at HopsScotch Bar & Grill on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm. HopsScotch has a full beer lineup and great food.

Meeting Wednesday 11/18 at Departed Soles Brewery

Among other things, we’ll be discussing our upcoming brewery tour to the Hudson Valley. Please stop by to give your input, as we nearly have things finalized. We’ll also be discussing bylaws for the club so we can open an official bank account and hopefully move towards nonprofit status at some point.

Don’t forget to bring a few bucks if you want to have some pizza!

JCBC Monthly Meeting 7/15 is at Departed Soles Brewery

This month’s meeting is at Departed Soles Brewery, 150 Bay St, not at HopsScotch! We also have a guest speaker

Beer writer John Holl (All About Beer Magazine, American Craft beer Cookbook, and more) will be speaking to us during this meeting and sharing some brews. John gets beer mailed to him from all over the world and has traveled to loads of breweries around the planet. He’ll talk to us about the route he’s taken to get to this position, and he’ll be open to any questions you might have.

Also, Departed Soles doesn’t have food, so we’ll be getting some pizza delivered. Bring a few bucks to chip in if you want to eat.

Announcing the 4th Annual JCBC Homebrew Contest!

The 4th St Arts Fest has come to an end, but JCBC’s Annual Homebrew Contest hasn’t! This year we are joining Jersey City Theater Center for their “Artoberfest” at Merseles Studios to host our homebrew contest. Artoberfest will be a day of art, music, and food, with beer from local breweries, including NJ Beer Co! And of course, homebrew!

Saturday, September 27

The format this year will be a little different than what we usually do. There are going to be two prize groups for this year’s contest, judged in different ways:

  • Judge’s Choice – This year’s contest is BJCP Sanctioned, meaning you will get great feedback from BJCP-certified judges. The entry fee is $5, and two unlabeled bottles (with entry sheet) must be dropped off at The Thirsty Quaker by Friday, September 19. The entry fee will be waived if also joining the People’s Choice competition. At the moment, only 75 entrants will be allowed, but more spots may open if we get more judges. These entries will be judged the week before, Saturday September 20.
  • People’s Choice – The people’s choice will be similar to previous years, where contestants bring up to 5 gallons of beer to serve to attendees. If joining the People’s Choice competition, your entry fee for Judge’s Choice is waived. Kegs or bottles are both fine. Entrants may bring multiple beers, but will be limited to entering only two for consideration. Ice and tubs will be provided. Space is set at a maximum of 24 entrants!
  • Volunteers & Judges – If you are BJCP certified, we would love to have you attend and judge our entrants! If you are not a certified judge, we could still use your help the day of, by organizing beer for the judges and helping brewers with pouring. Sign up below!
